Barstool Chicago Movie Soundtrack Draft Grades

Barstool Chicago is back with a draft of movie soundtracks. A very interesting draft topic, which I feel could be spoiled by the quality of movies vs the quality of the soundtrack. It will be interesting to see how people vote on this week's draft.

Round 1 Pick 1: Grease, Eddie

An unexpected first overall pick, but I like it. I like it a lot. It's very fun and lighthearted. Also a very good movie. Strong number one pick.

Grade: A

Round 1 Pick 2: Forrest Gump, Dante

Unexpected pick again. I do like how it has many decades covered in the album. I think it is an album that resonates with many people.

Grade: A

Round 1 Pick 3: Almost Famous, Chief

Ehhhh. I don't really think this should be a first-round pick. The soundtrack is just ok to me.

Grade: C+

Round 1 Pick 4: Guardians of the Galaxy, Kenjac

Phenomenal pick. Out of recent movies, it has the best soundtrack, 100%. Also, recency bias and marvel will help to garner many votes. A strong start for Kenjac.

Grade: A+

Round 1 Pick 5: Remember the Titans, Carl

Great soundtrack, but don't know if it pulls the same weight as some other soundtracks in the first round. But it is some great music.

Grade: B

Round 2 Pick 1: Dazed and Confused, Carl

Dazed and Confused has a very good assortment of classic rock. I think a lot of people will really like the soundtrack and the nostalgia it brings. Good pick.

Grade: A-

Round 2 Pick 2: A Star is Born, Kenjac

Very good original soundtrack. It has an original radio hit, which always helps. Very good selection but I think it would've fit better in a different round.

Grade: B+

Round 2 Pick 3: Dirty Dancin, Chief

I would consider this to be the best of the dancing movies from the time period. It's got a great soundtrack and a very iconic music moment at the end. When you hear "The time of my life" you instantly think of the ending scene. Strong selection.

Grade: A

Round 2 Pick 4: Saturday Night Fever, Dante

It's tough picking a less popular dance movie directly after another one. For this, I think Dante loses some votes. However, the Bee Gees are awesome and the music is good.

Grade: B+

Round 2 Pick 5: The Lion King, Eddie

This is a steal. This could have gone first round. Disney always has incredible soundtracks and this is the best. Very strong pick.

Grade: A+

Round 3 Pick 1: Goodfellas, Eddie

An interesting pick. Personally, I don't think of this movie as an all-timer. It will still receive votes though, based off of the popularity of the film.

Grade: B+

Round 3 Pick 2: The Bodyguard, Dante

Very chalky. It's the highest-selling movie soundtrack of all time. That being said, I probably would've taken it first overall.

Grade: A+

Round 3 Pick 3: Hamilton, Chief

Two thumbs down. I think it's so overrated. They're rapping about historical events, lame.

Grade: F

Round 3 Pick 4: Purple Rain, Kenjac

I mean it's just a prince album. Prince is great! A strong selection. With that being said, I don't think this plays particularly well on the graphic in regards to the other

Grade: B+

Round 3 Pick 5: Boogie Nights, Carl

Solid pick. Doesn't really jump off the board for me like a great pick. The soundtrack is good, not great.

Grade: B-

Round 4 Pick 1: Pulp Fiction, Carl

Outstanding pick. Not because I think the soundtrack is crazy good, but people will just vote simply because of name recognition alone and the opening theme. Good pick.

Grade: A

Round 4 Pick 2: Austin Powers, Kenjac

An ok pick. Not a very renowned soundtrack and people will probably only think of the theme song when they look at it on the graphic.

Grade: C

Round 4 Pick 3: The Graduate, Chief

The Graduate is one of those classic movies that it seems like no one has ever seen. For this reason, I think the pick is bad simply because people won't vote because they don't know the movie.

Grade: D

Round 4 Pick 4: The Blue's Brothers, Dante

I felt like it was important to pick movies where music is a central part of the plot in this draft because it allows people to remember the soundtrack. This is why I think the pick is so good. People will think highly of the soundtrack given it is an important part of the film.

Grade: A

Round 4 Pick 5: American Pie 2, Eddie

Good soundtrack, but it is not a movie known for its soundtrack. Therefore, it will not get many votes on the graphic.

Grade: C

Round 5 Pick 1: Now and Then, Eddie

This is a loss. The problem with this is that even though the soundtrack is good nobody knows the movie. So good pick but won't get any votes.

Grade: C-

Round 5 Pick 2: 8-Mile, Dante

Solid pick. People will just vote on it because of Lose Yourself, and that's ok. It won an Oscar for best original song. Strong pick.

Grade: A

Round 5 Pick 3: Little Mermaid, Chief

Very strong selection. Under the sea is great. It's probably the number two Disney soundtrack for an animated movie, in my opinion.

Grade: A-

Round 5 Pick 4: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kenjac

I like the pick, it just feels weird having both 1 and 2. Don't get me wrong they are great soundtracks, but I feel like he already had the superhero base and needed to expand his voter base.

Grade: A

Round 5 Pick 5: School of Rock, Carl

A very rock-heavy draft for Carl. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. School of Rock has a very good soundtrack and really fits nicely in the fifth round.

Grade: B

Overall a strong draft from pretty much everyone, the only person being left behind is Eddie.

Predicted Winner: Kenjac

Predicted Loser: Eddie
