Barstool Chicago Carnival Draft Grades

Return of the king! Carl is finally back on a snake draft after a VERY long break. Let's see if the king can run it back. They are also joined by Martymush, your resident scumbag (self-proclaimed).

Round 1 Pick 1: Funnel Cake, Carl

I love me a good funnel cake. It's a great pick, I think it's worthy of the first round but not first overall. However, I think it is the best in the food category. There is something to be said with it being messy, but let's be honest fairs/carnivals, in general, are pretty dirty, to begin with.

Grade: A

Round 1 Pick 2: Carnies, Eddie

Who doesn't love a good carnie? Everybody. People generally dislike carnies, however, there is something endearing about them at the same time? I don't know. They are the carnival equivalent of the beer vendor except they have more felony convictions to their name. A solid pick from Ed.

Grade: A+

Round 1 Pick 3: Shoot the star, Dave

This is one of my favorite games at the carnival. I would consider it to be a first-rounder although some might. I do like other games better, but I can see how this would be taken in the first round.

Grade: A

Round 1 Pick 4: Fried Oreos, Marty

This is a good pick. I don't think it is a first-round food selection. If he would've gotten this in the next round it would have been better.

Round 1 Pick 5: Corndog, Chief

The best non-dessert carnival food. It doesn't taste good normally but is good at a carnival. I also think it will just get a lot of votes.

Round 2 Pick 1: Getting dropped off, Chief

This would've been good in a later round. It's a good nostalgia pick, but not good in the second round. So, overall it is a decent pick.

Grade: B

Round 2 Pick 2: Swings, Marty

This is my number two overall ride. It's very fun, but not my personal favorite. I think everyone likes it and it will get votes on the graphic. The ride is fun and it gives an extra element because you are pretty high up, which allows you to see the whole carnival. Good pick.

Grade: A

Round 2 Pick 3: Pirate Ship Ride, Dave

Eh, these rides are ok. They aren't as good as the swings but they are a solid ride. I would consider this to be much more of a kid's ride. I also don't think the pirate ship ride has a "puke factor". It's not my favorite ride, I think it's actually a bit mellow. A solid pick, but not great. I think it will get some votes though.

Round 2 Pick 4: Ferris Wheel, Ed

As a ride, Ferris Wheels kind of stink. However, if you have a date with you, it is definitely the best ride. I think it definitely should've been drafted, but it could have gone in the third or fourth round for me.

Grade: B

Round 2 Pick 5: Sledgehammer Game, Carl

This is the most accurate test of how manly you are. It's a quality game. If you hit the bell, you are instantly the coolest guy in the place for about fifteen minutes. However, if you miss you might as well just leave. A strong pick.

Round 3 Pick 1: The Tilt-A-Whirl, Carl

Kind of a lame ride. It's basically just the teacups. It's not a great ride, Carl himself didn't even like the pick. There were two better rides available, and the first overall ride hasn't even been selected. Not that good of a pick, a massive miss.

Grade: C

Round 3 Pick 2: Basketball Game, Eddie

Probably the game I've spent the most money on in my lifetime. On my eighth-grade trip to Hershey Park, half of my grade came home with a basketball. I would like to proudly announce I won two basketballs and selflessly gave away one of them to my buddy who was not a sharpshooter like myself. I love this game. Good pick.

Grade: A

Round 3 Pick 3: Cotton Candy, Dave

I didn't think this was a bad pick. I don't love cotton candy, but I still think this pick has a bit of value. It was wrongly ridiculed.

Grade: B

Round 3 Pick 4: Water Gun Game, Marty

The best part of this game is that you are competing against other people, not just yourself. It is good to fight against all of your friends, good pick. 

Grade: A

Round 3 Pick 5: Bumper Cars, Chief

Bumper Cars is fine. It's not fun after the first 30-45 seconds. Sometimes you get the Nazis that police you way too hard about hitting people head-on. Decent pick, not great.

Grade: C+

Round 4 Pick 1: Dunk Tank, Chief

Not a great pick. The fun of the dunk tank is knowing the person that you are dunking. At the carnival, it is just not as personal or fun.

Grade: C

Round 4 Pick 2: Accusing the Carnies of Cheating, Marty

Good pick. Sometimes it's just good to get your frustration out. I think this will give everyone a good laugh and maybe give him a few votes.

Grade: A

Round 4 Pick 3: Smell of Fried Food, Dave

This is not a great pick. You can smell fried food pretty much anywhere. While carnivals do have a distinct scent, just narrowing it to fried foods is pretty dumb. Not a great pick.

Grade: C-

Round 4 Pick 4: Lemonade, Eddie

I think this is an ok pick. The only drink taken in the draft, which gives it a little bit of an edge. I am very indifferent to the pick overall.

Grade: C+

Round 4 Pick 5: The quarter game, Carl

I've never even seen this at a carnival. It's more of an arcade or casino game in my opinion. It's fun, but just not a carnival game to me.

Grade: D

Round 5 Pick 1: REO Speedwagon, Carl

A very good band. Honestly surprised they are a big fair band. I feel like they are much bigger than that. Strong pick from Carl.

Grade: A

Round 5 Pick 2: Puddle of Mud, Eddie

I'm gonna be honest, I have never even heard of this band. Everyone said it was a good pick, so I'll give Ed the benefit of the doubt here.

Grade: A-

Round 5 Pick 3: Smashmouth, Dave

Great, great, great pick from Dave. Everyone enjoys Smashmouth just a little bit. Strong selection and I think it will get a ton of votes.

Grade: A

Round 5 Pick 4: The Beach Boys, Marty

One of the best bands of all time in my opinion. However, I don't think a lot of people will consider them to be a "fair" band, but it's a good selection nonetheless. 

Grade: A-

Round 5 Pick 5: Jo Dee Messina, Chief

Not a good pick from here. I'm not sure people will really know who this is, especially in comparison to the rest of the musical selection.

Grade: C

This is a very tough draft to grade. I think everyone was pretty close. Marty had a surprisingly good draft, Carl and Eddie are also pretty good. Chief and Dave are fighting for last place.
