Barstool Chicago Nerd Draft Grades
The Chicago guys are back and they're drafting Nerds! They are joined by resident Barstool nerd, Robbie Fox, the loveable Marvel, Star Wars, and UFC super fan.
Round 1 Pick 1: Stan Lee, Robbie
I'm shocked with how good of a pick this was. Like, to be honest, this very well could just straight up win the draft. Stan crossed over from nerd culture to main stream culture and is loved by all. Excellent pick from Robbie.
Grade: A+
Round 1 Pick 2: Darren Rovell, Dave
This is another great pick, but for a different reason. Everyone HATES Rovell. He's the complete opposite of Stan Lee. A shockingly good pick from Dave.
Grade: A+
Round 1 Pick 3: Bill James, Carl
I think this is a good pick, but it won't play well on the graphic. He is essentially the mind behind Moneyball, which is basically the nerdiest thing in sports. However this pick probably wasn't first round quality.
Grade: B
Round 1 Pick 4: Jim Levenstein, Chief
It was a solid pick, in theory, however the nest pick absolutely blows this one out of the water. In a vacuum, it's a solid pick, but it just looks bad in the spot it was picked.
Grade: B
Round 1 Pick 5: McLovin, Eddie
Probably the best movie nerd in the history of movie nerds. Absolutely great pick from Eddie right here. McClovin is absolutely timeless and he gets laid, what a story. Superbad is an awesome movie and honestly any of the characters could have also been drafted.
Grade: A+
Round 2 Pick 1: Michael Cera, Eddie
This was another solid pick from Eddie. Michael Cera is a great nerd. I think one of his best nerd roles was actually as George Michael in Arrested Development. He was a great nerd in that and he does the nerd role so well.
Grade: A
Round 2 Pick 2: Matthew Berry, Chief
This was another "meh" pick from Chief. I don't really know if Matthew Berry really plays well on the graphic and was really not awesome in the second round. A pretty lackluster start to the draft.
Grade: C
Round 2 Pick 3: Steve Urkel, Carl
Urkel is an awesome selection. He is probably a top three TV show nerd, if not number one. His only downfall is sometimes he is literally the coolest guy to ever exist. Solid pick.
Grade: A-
Round 2 Pick 4: Mark Zuckerburg, Dave
Another solid selection from Dave. He once again goes with a hated nerd, rather than loveable one, which seems to be a strategy that's working. Zuck is an all-time hated guy and just a weirdo. Good pick by Dave.
Grade: A
Round 2 Pick 5: Ned Flanders, Robbie
So I think this is Robbie's worst pick of the draft, but that doesn't make it a bad pick. I'm not a huge fan of The Simpsons, but I know Flanders is a solid selection.
Grade: B+
Round 3 Pick 1: Dwight Schrute, Robbie
Now this is a pick. Dwight is a nerd in every sense. He is smart, has poor social skills, and sucks up to the boss. This is a grade A nerd. Robbie also gets a ton of the votes simply for having a character from The Office on the graphic, incredible third round selection.
Grade: A+
Round 3 Pick 2: Newman, Dave
I've never watched Seinfeld but I do know he is Jerry's enemy. However, Dave's explanation wasn't completely stellar. His main argument was that he was a mailman and had figurines. First, figurines are cool so that is an invalid point. Second, mailmans fuck Milfs all the time, so that's an insanely bad chirp from Dave. I will give Dave the benefit of the doubt though.
Grade: B-
Round 3 Pick 3: George R.R. Martin, Carl
So one of the problems with Martin is that many people might not know him. Like I'm sure there are Game of Thrones fans out there that have no idea who he is. However he is an incredibly big nerd and I'm really not sure if he is a hated nerd like Rovell or a beloved one like Stan Lee.
Grade: B
Round 3 Pick 4: George McFly, Chief
Another lackluster draft performance gets even worse right here from Chief. Sure George is nerdy, but he isn't even the biggest nerd in the movie! I'm Burrata Gang through and through but sometimes you just have to admit when Chief has a bad draft. Today is one of those days.
Grade: C
Round 3 Pick 5: Andy (40 year old virgin), Eddie
The whole bike wheel persona and working in the tech store just add to the nerdiness of the character. It is a solid character and Steve Carrell plays it so well. Solid pickup in the third round.
Grade: B+
Round 4 Pick 1: Minkus, Eddie
I never watched Boy Meets World so I had to give this guy a quick Google search. I just saw one image and thought "yup this kid definitely carries around gold fish and has a snot bubble in his nose" which is a grade A sign of a nerd at a young age.
Grade: A
Round 4 Pick 2: Laney Boggs, Chief
A solid selection from Chief, bonus points for admitting the horny pick. Honestly could be his best pick of the draft given the round he got it.
Grade: B
Round 4 Pick 3: Albert Einstein, Carl
Yeah Einstein is a nerd but you don;t really think of him as a nerd. He's more of a mad scientist type character. This could've been the pick that really took him out of contention, because prior to this he had a solid draft.
Grade: C
Round 4 Pick 4: Milhouse, Dave
It's never really smart to pick someone else from a show that's already been selected, but I don't think this was a wasted pick. Milhouse is very nerdy and also has a crush on another nerd, Lisa, so he seems to fit. Now that I'm thinking about it, The Simpsons has a pretty large amount of nerds.
Grade: B
Round 4 Pick 5: George Lucas, Robbie
If Stan Lee is the king of the nerds, Lucas is the prince. Those two alone have created more nerds than anyone else on the entire planet and have capitavted them for decades. Insanely good pull from Bob Fox.
Grade: A
Round 5 Pick 1: Jeff D. Lowe, Robbie
Welp this seals it, Robbie may get 80% of the vote. He has the Marvel fans, Star Wars fans, The Office, and now Barstool? This is absolutely absurd. What an absolute masterclass from Robbie with having no board prepared!
Grade: A+
Round 5 Pick 2: Data (The Goonies), Dave
I'm not even sure why I'm grading the rest of these but I'll do it for the integrity of draft graders around the world. Data is my personal favorite character from The Goonies, he's just so funny. Solid selection form dave who really put together a strong draft. He zigged while everyone else zagged tbh.
Grade: A
Round 5 Pick 3: Walter White, Carl
I really don't see Walter White as a massive nerd to be honest. He deals meth and has fights with the DEA, not nerdlike. I understand he's a chemistry teacher, but he's more of a badass if anything. Not a good pick from Carl, who only picked this to try and get the Breaking Bad vote.
Grade: C-
Round 5 Pick 4: Smalls, Chief
Smalls is 100% a nerd and I don't know why they tried to deny it. If you want proof just rewatch the scene when he goes to the treehouse and doesn't know what S'mores are. That's a nerd move.
Grade: A
Round 5 Pick 5: Rick Moranis, Eddie
Very Michael Ceraesque pick. He plays a lot of nerds and is really good in the role, solid selection, but not enough to win the draft.
Grade: B+
Like I previously stated, Robbie has this one in the bag, he was playing a whole different ball game than the other four. This strongly reminds me of Bwalk in the QB draft, just an absolute blood bath.
Predicted Winner: Robbie
Predicted Loser: Chief
