Barstool Chicago Golf Shit Draft Grades
It's Master's week and there is no more fitting draft than "Golf Shit". The crew is joined by Riggs, co-host of Foreplay pod. This was a great draft because I love golf, so it was pretty fun to grade.
Round 1 Pick 1: John Daly, Eddie
John Daly is the best common man golfer ever. He is just an absolute dude and he doesn't give a fuck what people think about him. He's awesome. He might not be the best golfer ever, but he is probably the most fun to watch.
Grade: A+
Round 1 Pick 2: Green Jacket, Dave
If I'm being honest I would've just taken the Master's over just the Green Jacket but it isn't a bad selection whatsoever. I would argue it is the most famous "trophy" in all of sports, second behind maybe the Stanley Cup.
Grade: A-
Round 1 Pick 3: Tiger Woods, Riggs
I mean this is such a chalky pick, but you can't hate Riggs for taking it. I mean Tiger is arguably the most undeniable GOAT of any sport. He is quite literally the embodiment of Golf. Great selection.
Grade: A+
Round 1 Pick 4: Cart Girl, Carl
I've never personally seen the whole cart girl appeal, but I am also only 19 so most of the cart girls are pretty much my age, and would it would be a bit odd to fall head-over-heels for them. However, I do understand that they are a massive part of the game.
Grade: A
Round 1 Pick 5: "The Boys", Chief
I would argue this is the best thing about golfing. I really do not understand why people thought this pick stunk. Golfing with a bunch of your buds is an elite way to spend some time with your friends. You can even have a bad day on the links and it can still be enjoyable if you're with your boys.
Grade: A+
Round 2 Pick 1: The Ryder Cup, Chief
Tough pick from Chief. I mean the Ryder Cup is awesome, but it's not the best tourney. Obviously, it gives some national pride like the Olympics or The World Cup. However, it's not the best tournament. But it is probably number two.
Grade: B+
Round 2 Pick 2: Golf Trips, Carl
So I've never been on a golf trip, but I've been on trips with the boys, so I can only imagine how fun it would be. They're almost always in winter so it's just awesome to land in Pensacola, Florida, head to the hotel, and hit the links for a few days straight. Golf resorts are always great and the courses are immaculate. I think this is a good pick from Carl.
Grade: A
Round 2 Pick 3: Golf Outfits, Riggs
I don't know about this one. I love popping on a polo and having a nice outlet heading out to play 18 holes. However, I don't really let it define my afternoon. However, Tiger is red just hits different.
Grade: B
Round 2 Pick 4: Fresh cut grass and Birds chirping, Dave
I understand Dave's pick, but he probably could have worded it better. Being out on a golf course is just so relaxing. All of the senses are firing, especially smell and sound. When there is still a bit of dew on the course is absolute perfection.
Grade: B
Round 2 Pick 5: Sound of a Drive, Eddie
I'd say a purely hit drive, behind the crack of a wood bat and the swish of a net, is the third best sound in all of sports. It is so satisfying when you hit a perfect drive and it sounds so pure.
Grade: A
Round 3 Pick 1: Hot Dog at the turn, Eddie
A hot dog between hole 9 and 10 is sometimes better than a nice steak at a five star restaurant. I just don't get it. Maybe all of the courses put crack in them, I just don't know. It's probably because you're 1.5-2 hours in and you're just starting to get hungry, then bam a two dollar dog. It's great.
Grade: A
Round 3 Pick 2: 19th Hole, Dave
Surprisingly good pick from Dave here because this is where his drafts usually start to turn. Everyone loves chilling in the clubhouse with their buddies, and it's great after a long day of some golf. Excellent pick.
Grade: A
Round 3 Pick 3: Getting a Good Bounce, Riggs
As a self-proclaimed shitty golfer, hitting a shot off a tree onto the fairway is absolutely awesome. There really isn't much to explain here.
Grade: A
Round 3 Pick 4: Country Clubs, Carl
This pick just doesn't really do it for me. Sure country clubs are nice, but there is just something about them that is offputting to me. They have a lot of people with an entitled attitude. But, their courses are immaculate.
Grade: B-
Round 3 Pick 5: Cigars, Chief
I don't smoke, but I know cigars with the boys are huge. Almost always see a group of guys passing stoges around. Good pick.
Grade: A
Round 4 Pick 1: Taking your Golf Shoes off, Chief
To me, taking your golf shoes off isn't the same relief I get from taking other sports shoes off. Most golf shoes are generally comfortable, unlike cleats. I don't think it's an awful pick, but it wasn't the best.
Grade: C+
Round 4 Pick 2: Stingers, Carl
Anyone who golfs a good amount loves a good stinger. They are so hard to do on purpose that when you accidentally do one, you feel like Tiger. A great feeling. They also look really cool.
Grade: A
Round 4 Pick 3: New Clubs, Riggs
Everyone loves taking that first drive with your new driver. Of course, we can't all be sponsored by Taylormade like Riggs, so new clubs mean just a little more. Personally, I have to get most of my new stuff from secondhand stores, so it feels even better when I have a brand new club.
Grade: A
Round 4 Pick 4: Getting your first Birdie, Dave
Getting a birdie makes you feel like you could get on the tour. Whether it be a lucky bounce on a par three or a great drive on a par five, getting a birdie is great. Dave is having a surprisingly good draft.
Grade: A
Round 4 Pick 5: Master's music, Eddie
CBS has some of the best sports jingles and the best one could be from Augusta on Sundays. I love the Master's, I love Nantz, and I love the music. Outstanding pick in the fourth round.
Grade: A+
Round 5 Pick 1: Calling Phil "Lefty", Eddie
It feels like this has died down in the past few years, especially as Phil has become less relevant. So I think this pick loses a bit of juice. Still a good nickname, but also probably not the best in the sport. (Tiger, Golden Bear are better)
Grade: B-
Round 5 Pick 2: Roasting your buddies for not hitting it past the women's tees, Dave
Roasting your friends is great any time, but it is especially fun on the course. There isn't much to say about this pick because it's pretty self-explanatory.
Grade: A
Round 5 Pick 3: Swing Tips, Riggs
I actually didn't love this pick a whole lot. Sharing swing tips with your friends is alright. But sometimes getting swing tips sucks. Especially if you're having a bad day and some loser says "hey have you tried loosening up your grip? It really works!" So this pick is very hit or miss for me.
Grade: C+
Round 5 Pick 4: Driving Ranges, Carl
Driving ranges are super fun. It's the best way to work on your game without having to spend loads of money. It is also the absolute best feeling when you absolutely nuke a ball at a crowded range. A solid way to kill some time with your buddies on a summer evening as well.
Grade: A
Round 5 Pick 5: The Claret Jug, Chief
If anyone has any insight as to what Chief actually said, please let me know. But the Claret Jug is ok. I didn't exactly know what it was at first, but I did recognize it. Unfortunate ending for Chief, but I don't really think he was winning anyway.
Grade: C+
I know I have a ton of highly graded picks, but I just love golf so much. This is a really tough draft to grade because no one is outwardly bad. I think Carl and Dave are actually pretty neck and neck, however, some of Dave's selections are a bit too wordy for the graphic.
Predicted Winner: Carl (Again)
Predicted Loser: Chief
