Barstool Chicago Dog Breed Draft Grades

The Chicago crew is back and they are drafting man's best friend. They are joined by Uncle Chaps, who is a military dog trainer and barstool blogger/podcaster. This draft was probably one of the least contestive drafts in recent memory because how can you get mad talking about dogs?

Round 1 Pick 1: Labrador Retriever, Chief

This is a great pick by Chief. It's really hard to pick a number one overall dog, but I believe this is an acceptable one. Everyone loves Labs, they're fun, they're loyal, and they look good.

Grade: A+

Round 1 Pick 2: Golden Retriever, Carl

I believe that Golden Retriever also could have gone number one overall. They're basically just Labs with longer hair. Great pick from Carl.

Grade: A+

Round 1 Pick 3: German Shepherd, Dave

Dave said that German Shpeherds could've gone first overall, but I diasgree. Don't get me wrong, they're good dogs, but not in the same category as the other two.

Grade: A-

Round 1 Pick 4: English Bulldog, Eddie

Bulldogs are absolutely adorable, but as mentioned during the draft, they are incredibly expensive. So the question arises, are they worth the expense? For me it's know. This is the dog you like to see when you go to someone's house, but you don't want to own.

Grade: C+

Round 1 Pick 5: Belgian Malinois, Chaps

I don't know a whole lot about these dogs, but Chaps gave them the highest of praises. It also helped him when he was shot overseas, so it gets extra points for that. They seem incredibly loyal, but not the best family dog.

Grade: A-

Round 2 Pick 1: Australian Shpeherd, Chaps

Australian Shepherds are absolutely gorgeous dogs. From the interactions I've had with them, they are playful and very friendly. Definitely seems like a great dog for families.

Grade: A

Round 2 Pick 2: St. Bernard, Eddie

Very friendly dogs with a good amount of enrgey. However they have two problems, they are massive and they slobber everywhere. These are not the best qualities, but they are still pretty good dogs nonetheless.

Grade: B+

Round 2 Pick 3: Boxer, Dave

Boxer's are all of the good parts of Bulldogs without the extra expenses. I don't think they are super popular so I'm not sure how well this pick will play on the graphic.

Grade: B+

Round 2 Pick 4: Siberian Husky, Carl

Absolutely beautiful dogs. They are also incredibly hardworking and loyal. They aren't super popular, but everyone loves them so I think they will play on the graphic.

Grade: A-

Round 2 Pick 5: Coonhound, Chief

Chief was kinda put in a tough spot. Obviously you have to take your own dog, but it hurts that it isn't a super popular one. I've never met someone with a coonhound and I'd guess most people don't know people with them. However they are good looking dogs.

Grade: B

Round 3 Pick 1: Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Chief

This pick definitely didn't help Chief. This is a dog I've never even heard of. They look very playful and fun, but I don't know how many people will recognize them.

Grade: B-

Round 3 Pick 2: French Bulldog, Carl

In my opinion, the French Bulldog is the best Bulldog. They are small and friendly, but they don't have as many expenses as other Bulldogs. They are also great for kids/families.

Grade: A

Round 3 Pick 3: Weimarainer, Dave

Weimarainer's are great dogs, but they aren't a flashy pick. I feel like other dogs could've been taken with better name value and Weimarainer could've lasted until the fifth round.

Grade: C+

Round 3 Pick 4: American Foxhound, Eddie

They're pretty good dogs, not amazing but obviously not terrible. This pick doesn't really move the needle in either direction. A very neutral pick.

Grade: B-

Round 3 Pick 5: Basset Hound, Chaps

Basset Hounds are incredibly functional dogs. They are great for hunting, great for working, and are good friends. They also are so ugly that they end up being cute. They also never get too big, which is helpful.

Grade: A-

Round 4 Pick 1: Rhodesian Ridgeback, Chaps

These dogs kill lions, that's fucking awesome. However not everyone knows that, especially if they didn't listen to the podcast. Therefore I can't grade them too highly because they aren't super well known.

Grade: B

Round 4 Pick 2: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Eddie

This was probably better than his first three picks if we are being honest. They are incredibly functional dogs and are loyal. Fun fact, they are actually the mascot of UMBC(the team that beat Virginia).

Grade: B

Round 4 Pick 3: Bernese Mountain Dog, Dave

My cousins had one of these dogs and they are incredibly loyal. They're super fun, but they did have a problem with shedding. Overall, solid pick from Dave.

Grade: B+

Round 4 Pick 4: German Shorthaired Pointer, Carl

Wonderful dog, shorter hair means less shedding. They have a unique look which gives them a leg up.

Grade: A-

Round 4 Pick 5: Vizsla, Chief

Not too many people are gonna know this dog by name. They're an incredibly photogenic dog with a great color fur. But, name recognition will hurt.

Grade: C+

Round 5 Pick 1: Dachsund, Chief

Definitely the funniest looking dog. Everyone loves a good wiener dog and this is a great fifth round pickup. They are also in the category so ugly they are cute, which is a perfect way to end the draft.

Grade: B+

Round 5 Pick 2: Corgi, Carl

This is probably in the top five of small dogs. Their ears always make them look happy and friendly. Good value in the pick.

Grade: A-

Round 5 Pick 3: Rottweiler, Dave

I understand their logic when they say a dog's friendliness is all about the training and owners, but it's just hard to look past the stigma around Rottweiler's. A tough one for the graphic for Dave.

Grade: D+

Round 5 Pick 4: Golden Doodle, Eddie

This is definitely Eddie's best pick of the whole draft. Everyone loves Golden Doodles. They are cute, friendly, full of energy, and they don't shed. What could be better than that? I'm actually surprised it lasted until the penultimate pick.

Grade: A+

Round 5 Pick 5: Cane Corso, Chaps

Another very aggressive dog, which probably wasn't good for the graphic. These dogs are famous for being Ramsay Bolton's dogs in GOT, which is not great press. This wasn't a stellar pick from Chaps.

Grade: C

Overall, this was a challenging draft to grade because it is so subjective. I really feel like Eddie and Dave's drafts were a tier below everyone else's, but some people may love all of the dogs they picked. With that being said:

Projected Winner: Carl

Projected Loser: Eddie
